Origins is Consequence‘s recurring series which gives artists a place to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, Matthew Logan Vasquez takes listeners through “Parade.”
Singer-songwriter Matthew Logan Vasquez, known for his work in indie rock band Delta Spirit, has dropped the latest single from his upcoming solo album, Frank’s Full Moon Saloon, out February 16th, 2024. Titled “Parade,” the song boasts contributions from Scott McMicken of Dr. Dog and features a slow, western-tinged acoustic guitar. Along with this new track, Vasquez has announced an upcoming tour that will run through the first half of 2024.
With beautiful background vocals and a smooth guitar solo making up the second half of the track, Vasquez brings his incredible talent to a new sonic landscape. Although the track is a re-recording of a tune found on Delta Spirit’s 2007 LP, Ode to Sunshine, those previously familiar with the song are bound to find something new to love about this incarnation.
The new recording finds Vasquez pulling together influences from both acts he loves and acts he’s played in. “[This song] sounds the way it sounds because I was so inspired by those guys,” he says of Dr. Dog in particular. “They’re the best band and best dudes. It seemed like a no brainer to reach out and to ask Scott to add his essence on this new recording. He’s such a cut above the rest.”
The new North American tour kicks off in February with a Texas residency, followed by two more legs that run through April and May, respectively. Check out the dates below and get tickets here.
