Last month, we announced the regional finalists for our exciting, fan-led Hometowns of Consequence initiative. Music lovers across the entire country voted for their favorite local music venues, the places where we gather to celebrate community and culture. Now, we’ve narrowed the over 1,300 nominees to our 20 finalists, with four from each of the five Hometowns regions.
This week, we’ll be spotlighting the venues nominated in each region, beginning with the Southeast: Arkansas’ George’s Majestic Lounge, Kentucky’s Portal at fifteenTWELVE, South Carolina’s The Radio Room Greenville, and Washington, DC’s 9:30 Club. You can also check out our Q&As with the Northeast and West finalists.
The purpose of these features are multifold; not only do we want to celebrate these venues that are so clearly beloved by their communities, but we hope to provide some insight into what makes them special for those voters who may not be as intimately familiar with all the nominees.
We sent a Q&A to every venue, asking for different staff members from each location to share their stories, experiences, and thoughts to explore what makes these spaces so special. After all, these beloved music halls aren’t just four walls and a sound system — they’re the people who work tirelessly every day to provide fans a welcoming, safe, electric place to experience art.
Voting for our Hometowns of Consequence winners will continue through October 21st, with the winners to be announced in the weeks thereafter.
