Multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington has announced his new solo album, The Pictures, out October 20th via Minaret Records. As a preview, the Darkside member has shared the single, “I’m Not a Dream.”
Spanning 27 songs, the project is described as “a love letter to the cinema” and a showcase of Harrington’s “eclectic taste,” as well as a “quiet nod” to his father and a “love song” to his family. He played every instrument on the album, ranging from the guitar to percussion, drums, upright bass, keyboards, and his fretless Turkish banjo. Pre-orders for The Pictures are ongoing via Bandcamp. See the artwork and tracklist below.
Indeed, movie dialogue floats atop the tranquil opening track “I’m Not a Dream,” which features a rich instrumental led by a xylophone. Stream it below.
The most recent Darkside album, Spiral, was released in 2021, but Harrington has stayed characteristically busy since then. Last year alone, he put out four Choice Tapes as a member of Taper’s Choice and played on Alanis Morissette’s album, The Storm Before the Calm. Earlier this year, Harrington teamed up with Spencer Zahn and Jeremy Gustin to cover Harry Styles’ Harry’s House in full.
