The first trailer for The Fall Guy, David Leitch’s new film inspired by the ‘80s TV series of the same name, has arrived. Watch it below.
Starring Ryan Gosling as a seasoned stuntman who is hired to work on a film directed by his ex-lover (Emily Blunt), The Fall Guy’s plot centers around the mysterious disappearance of the film’s leading man: the “biggest action star on the planet,” Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Attempting to save the film, a producer (Hannah Waddingham) enlists Gosling and his stuntman skills to bring Ryder back. But when Gosling finds Ryder dead, he realizes that he’s become entangled in a conspiracy that puts his job, his chances at winning back his former flame, and his life all at risk.
The Fall Guy was directed by Leitch, written by Drew Pearce, and produced by Leitch, Gosling, Kelly McCormick, and Guymon Casady, with Pearce, Geoff Shaevitz, and Glen A. Larson getting executive producer credits. The film will premiere in theaters on March 1st, 2024.
A film adaptation of The Fall Guy has been in the works since at least 2010, with Dwayne Johnson even being considered for the lead role for a period of time. By September 2020, though, it was announced that Leitch (who began his career as a stuntman) was attached to the project. With him at the helm, the film takes cues from the original Fall Guy series — even including subtler references, like Blunt’s character being named “Jody” — but breathes new life into the concept. For Gosling, The Fall Guy arrives after a big year. In July, he starred in Greta Gerwig’s historic summer blockbuster, Barbie, and in August, he even landed on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to the release of “I’m Just Ken,” his song from the film. As for Blunt, she appeared in one of the summer’s other big blockbusters: Oppenheimer.
Meanwhile, stuntmen are getting due recognition beyond The Fall Guy, thanks to the upcoming Daniel Radcliffe-produced documentary David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived, which tells the story of Radcliffe’s stunt double who was paralyzed after an accident on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
