Issa López served as showrunner, writer, and director on all six episodes of Night Country after True Detective creator and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto exited the series following Season 3. López and Foster also executive produced the series, with Pizzolatto, Mari Jo Winkler, and original True Detective stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson maintaining executive production roles.

Season 3 of True Detective, starring Mahershala Ali as Arkansas detective Wayne Hays, premiered way back in 2019.
