Kevin Costner has revealed his much-ballyhooed epic western film, Horizon: An American Saga, will be released in two parts next summer. Chapter 1 will arrive in theaters on June 28th, 2024, while Chapter 2 will debut on August 16th, 2024.
Horizon: An American Saga marks a return to the Civil War era of Costner’s Oscar-winning Dances with Wolves. Spanning 15 years, it depicts the settlement of the American West and will center on the settlers and indigenous people that first occupied the land.
“It involves women trying to get by in a world that was impossibly tough,” Costner previously told Variety about the epic. “They were often [dragged] out to these places because that’s where the men wanted to go; women were following their men. They didn’t ask to be in these territories that were unsettled and dangerous, and life wasn’t easy. I’ve chosen to make sure that was really obvious, that that wasn’t easy, and how vulnerable people were.”
In addition to directing Horizon, Costner will star alongside Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
Costner also told Variety last year that he planned to release Horizon as “four different movies” coming out “about every three months.” It’s currently unclear if Costner will stick to the plans for a four-part series.
Horizon has been at the center of the drama surrounding Costner’s role in the second half of Yellowstone Season 5. Earlier this year, Deadline reported that he only wanted to spend a week shooting, which the actor denied through his attorney. Last month, Costner broke his silence about the tensions during a child support hearing held as part of his ongoing divorce proceedings and said he’ll probably end up going to court.
