Pitcher Andrew Heaney put it out in the universe that he wanted Texas Rangers fans to belt out a Creed song at the team’s home playoff game against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night (October 10th), and his wish was granted in a big way. An entire stadium of fans sang along to Creed’s “Higher” in a rousing display of support for the red-hot baseball team.
As we reported on Monday, Heaney said the Rangers started to play Creed’s music in the locker room in the second half of the regular season, and it’s been rallying the team ever since. Heading into Monday night’s game, the Rangers were undefeated in the MLB playoffs, sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays in the Wild Card round, and going up two games to none against the Orioles in the ALDS.
Heaney said it would fire the team up if the fans sang a Creed tune at their home games, and that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday night. “Higher” was blasted from the Globe Life Field speakers, with the lyrics appearing on the Jumbotron screen. Video footage shows practically every Rangers fan in the stadium singing along to the 1999 monster hit.
The song ended up working like a charm, with the Rangers defeating the Orioles 7-1, sweeping the series and advancing to the ALCS.
The Texas Rangers’ love for Creed comes as the band is slated to reunite for their first performances in more than a decade. The multiplatinum rock act is set to headline the Summer of ’99 and Summer of ’99 and Beyond cruises, setting sail from Miami and Orlando, respectively, in April 2024. Both cruises sold out within hours of going on sale, proving that Creed remain popular even after a long hiatus.
