The National is an American indie rock band formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1999. The band consists of vocalist Matt Berninger, guitarists Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner, bassist Scott Devendorf, and drummer Bryan Devendorf.
After releasing their self-titled debut album in 2001, The National gained critical acclaim with their follow-up albums Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers (2003) and Alligator (2005). These albums showcased the band's signature sound of melancholic lyrics, intricate melodies, and Berninger's deep baritone vocals.
In 2007, The National released Boxer, which was hailed as one of the best albums of the year and cemented the band's status as indie rock royalty. The album's lead single, "Fake Empire," became a fan favorite and was featured in several TV shows and movies.
The band continued to release critically acclaimed albums with High Violet (2010), Trouble Will Find Me (2013), and Sleep Well Beast (2017), which won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
Their latest album is called First Two Pages of Frankenstein.
