DIY icons Jeff Rosenstock and Mike Park of The Bruce Lee Band take a moment from recording new music to discuss their latest release, Division in the Heartland, for our artist-on-artist interview series Peer 2 Peer.
With the release of Ska Dream and the announcement of a new tour (a few stops on which he’ll exclusively be playing Ska Dream), Rosenstock is posed to initiate a new era of ska. His longtime friend and bandmate Park, a ska legend and advocate for small and DIY record labels, is also along for the ride to make sure he doesn’t fuck up and sign to Warner.
The two reminisce about meeting in the parking lot of a $2 baseball game, where Park was hosting a barbecue for his record label Asian Man Records, and Rosenstock arrived with a generator and his band The Arrogant Sons of Bitches with the hopes of playing. Unfortunately, Park rejected his offer, but this desperate moment of a touring ska punk band led to a lasting friendship and numerous collaborations.
