Saturday Night Live has set its Season 49 premiere on October 14th with former cast member Pete Davidson returning to host with musical guest Ice Spice.
The following week’s episode on October 21st will see Bad Bunny pull double duty as both host and musical guest.
Davidson was originally set to host SNL on May 6th, 2023. However, the episode — and the rest of the show’s 48th season — was canceled due to the writers’ strike. The strike ended up lasting nearly five months, causing SNL to also delay the premiere of its 49th season by two weeks. (SNL falls under the SAG-AFTRA Network Code contract and is not impacted by the ongoing actors’ strike.)
Davidson, who was a cast member on SNL for eight years, previously said he was “terrified” to return to the show as a host. “That show is hard!” Davidson told Jimmy Fallon in an April 2023 interview. “I had a weird little gig there, ’cause I would just do my thing once in a while and they would let me do whatever. But I was like, ‘You guys work really hard!’ I was like, ‘I’m going to be in more than one sketch.’ That’s crazy!”
Like Davidson, Bad Bunny will be making his SNL hosting debut. The musician-actor previously appeared on the show as a musical guest in 2021. His latest appearance coincides with the release of Roger Ross Williams’ lucha libre biopic, Cassandro, in which Bad Bunny co-stars. He’s also going on tour in 2024.
SNL has also confirmed that all of Season 48’s cast will return, plus Chloe Troas has been added as a featured player.
