Beyoncé celebrated her 42nd birthday with a few famous friends during the latest stop of her “Renaissance World Tour” (get tickets to later dates here) at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Monday, September 4th. After being serenaded by Diana Ross, Beyoncé later brought out Kendrick Lamar to perform their remix of the Renaissance cut “America Has a Problem” for the first time.
After Ross performed her 1976 hit “Love Hangover,” she sang “Happy Birthday” to Beyoncé with the assistance of 60,000 members of the BeyHive. “Thank you so much, you are so amazing,” a grateful Bey responded. “This is the legendary Diana Ross! There would be no me without you and thank you so much for all of your sacrifice and your beauty and your grace. Thank you for opening doors for me. Thank you so much.”
Toward the end of Beyoncé’s set, she brought out hometown hero Kendrick Lamar, who appeared to deal with microphone issues before settling into his performance. Watch the fan-shot footage below.
Beyoncé helped celebrate Ross’ 75th birthday back in 2019 with her own rendition of “Happy Birthday” and has cited the Supremes singer as a major influence. In the 2006 film Dreamgirls, Bey even played a character heavily influenced by the story of Ross.
The “Renaissance World Tour” continues through early October; grab your seats here.
