Caroline Polachek recently stopped by the NPR office for a Tiny Desk Concert, performing tracks from her fantastic February 2023 album Desire, I Want to Turn Into You.

With a tuning fork in hand, Polachek kicked off the four-song setlist with “Pretty In Possible.” While the Tiny Desk setting doesn’t quite match her usual dark, medieval-chic aesthetic, she still managed to bring her enchanting sense of whimsy, seemingly getting lost in her own music — that is, until she needed a swig of water, which she took from an antique-looking goblet.

Tiny Desk Concerts also aren’t usually the type of venue where artists encourage audience participation, but leave it to Polachek to get the whole room involved during “Sunset,” leading everyone behind the camera in a unison hand-clapped beat. And by the time she closed out the performance with “I Believe,” she’d once again prompted a question we’ve been asking since her Chairlift days: How the hell does she do that without Auto-Tune?

Watch Caroline Polachek’s full Tiny Desk Concert below.

Polachek has just a handful of 2023 tour dates left in Japan and Australia, and you can grab tickets here. Earlier this year, she spent some time supporting The 1975, joining the band onstage to duet “Oh Caroline” (naturally) in Ireland.
