Ozzy Osbourne takes a licking but keeps on ticking. The Prince of Darkness is “doing well and on the road to recovery” following major surgery, reports his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne.
Last week, Sharon revealed that Ozzy was set to undergo a “very major operation” on Monday (June 13th) that was “really going to determine the rest of his life.” It is assumed that the surgery was related to correcting structural damage that the metal icon had suffered in a fall in early 2019. At the time, Ozzy dislodged metal rods and pins that were placed in his body after a 2003 ATV accident. The singer himself had recently mentioned that a previous surgeon “f**ked up” and that he needed additional neck surgery, as he couldn’t “walk properly these days.”
In a statement posted to Twitter on Tuesday (June 14th), Sharon wrote the following on behalf of the Osbourne family:
“Our family would like to express so much gratitude for the overwhelming amount of love and support leading up to Ozzy’s surgery! Ozzy is doing well and on the road to recovery! Your love means the world to him.”
This latest surgery comes after a few years of health setbacks for the metal legend. In addition to the fall at home, he revealed in early 2020 that he was battling Parkinson’s disease, and just recently, Sharon disclosed that Ozzy contracted COVID-19, adding that she was “very worried” due to his pre-existing conditions. She later reported that Ozzy “was much better and on the mend.”
While he hasn’t been able to tour for a few years since kicking off his “No More Tours 2” farewell outing in 2018, Ozzy has been busy in the studio, as he released the solo album Ordinary Man in 2020, and re-teamed with that LP’s producer, Andrew Watt, for an as-yet-untitled follow-up that he recently completed. The forthcoming LP includes guest appearances from Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, Zakk Wylde, Chad Smith, Josh Homme, Mike McCready, Robert Trujillo, the late Taylor Hawkins and more.
Here’s wishing Ozzy a speedy recovering from his life-changing surgery. See Sharon’s post in the tweet below, followed by our 2020 video interview with Jack Osbourne, in which he discussed his father’s health and more.
