Gracie Abrams catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about her Grammy nomination (Best New Artist), debut album Good Riddance, and the progress she’s made on her next LP.
The singer-songwriter discusses her relationship with Good Riddance after a year of touring and why its songs were more personal than her earlier work. She also tells the story of getting a call from fellow Best New Artist nominee Noah Kahan after hearing the news of her nomination: “Noah Kahan was the first person to call me, and we kind of just had a screaming match on the phone,” she remembers. “He’s the greatest guy. I wish everyone knew him personally.”
Abrams also discusses how her writing changed after meeting and working with Aaron Dessner, what the next record will sound like, her contribution to the Buccaneers soundtrack. She also dives into the heightened experience of opening for Taylor Swift, something she also discussed with Consequence for our Artist of the Year feature on Swift.
